Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Championship in 882 Days
19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hardcourt
A revitalized the Russian player claimed his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.
The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a torrid year, managing just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately separating with former coach Cervara.
Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's initial championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court since March of the previous year.
The win also signifies he has won 21 victories at twenty-one various events.
"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my child her name, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.
His defensive approach and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused some to question if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.
However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and perform aggressively, backed up by an better serve.
He came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the final five points to take the lead.
The pair traded service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to force a third set.
He defended 4 early opportunities in a tight third set before the champion broke to 15 to secure the win.
Suitably, he earned the title with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
